The Tilton Historical Museum Story

Preliminary research indicates that Tilton Inn building actually incorporates two smaller buildings, both built between 1875 and 1879. In their day, these buildings housed the F.J.Moulton Photography studio, the Batchelder and Couch Meat Company (circa 1860) and eventually they were joined to become the Tilton Inn. In 2002, Joanna Oliver saved the abandoned building from demolition and completely refurbished the eleven room Inn and adjoining Alphonso's Restaurant. The location of the F.J.Moulton Photography studio became the new home of the Tilton Historical Museum, a non-profit historical preservation organization and resource for the entire region.

Archaeological Dig beneath the 1875 Inn

This operation included historic research, mapping of the interior walls. Lab work is continuing with the discovered artifacts. Click here to check out the photos taken during the initial excavation
